About the Artist
Jonathan Combs--
"I live in the Pacific Northwest and my work often echoes the powerful forces of nature which surround me.
A son of the Pacific, I have lived in California, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska. Growing up in Anchorage and spending many summers in the tiny community of Halibut Cove in Katchemak Bay, the beauty and the power of the sea has long played a major role in my life and art.
I have been witness to several disasters including the chaos of the 9.2 Good Friday Earthquake in Alaska in 1964, the Great Flood in Florence, Italy in 1966, and watching an airliner crash and explode, killing 47, in 1970. These experiences have instilled in me a profound respect for both the forces of disaster and the refusal of humankind to surrender to their power.
